Stored XSS via AI Course Assist

Technical Overview
Moodle 5.0 introduced AI-powered features, including Course Assist—a drawer that lets users highlight text and ask the AI to explain or summarize it. The security assumption was that AI responses are plain text from a trusted source.
The vulnerability crosses user boundaries through shared course content. An attacker crafts content that other users can see, and the victim generates the malicious response fresh when they invoke the AI feature.

Mitigation
Sanitize AI Output

Input Isolation
Filter or isolate user-generated content before including in AI context.
